Card Games

I Heart Grandpa Love Stones

In prior years, card games were very popular and folks played many different games and versions.  In the 21st century, poker, solitaire, bridge, gin rummy and canasta are probably the most popular games using a standard deck of cards.  Poker is the only game among the five that requires money to make it interesting.  You can enjoy the others using  an inspirational paperweight as a prize for the winners.

When I was younger, I was passionate about pinochle but I don’t see folks playing it anymore.  Teach your kids to play War, Crazy Eights, Go Fish and Steal the Bundle.  They are easy games to learn.  Hoyle’s Rules of Games is available online if you need to refresh yourself on the rules.  Other enjoyable games are Blackjack (requires betting), Casino, Hearts and Concentration.

The nice thing about card games is that you don’t need much.  A deck or two of cards will easily fit in your carry-on luggage to help you kill time on the plane or at the airport.  If you are not a card player, try it.
