The Joy of Passover

L'Chaiim Inspirational Stones

L’Chaim (To Life) Inspirational Stones

Passover is a special holiday for Jews because it celebrates their departure from Egypt and to freedom. It was not an easy time in those years as they wandered through the desert for 40 years. While Passover is quite different from Chanukah greetings, the grandkids still see a similarity. Durring Chanukah, it is customary for the children to receive gifts. At the Passover Seder, the leader hides the afikomen (broken piece of matzo) and whoever finds it gets a reward from the leader. That is probably the highlight of the service for the young ones. Traditionally, we help them by providing small hints.

For grandma and grandpa, the highlight is when the youngsters ask the four questions. Why is this night different from all other nights? At first, they need help. As the years progress, they amaze us with their ability to first ask the questions in English, and later on in Hebrew. What a wonderful experience.

Our 50th Wedding Anniversary

Happy Annivesary Greeting Stone

Happy Anniversary Engraved Stones

My wife and I will soon be approaching our 50th wedding anniversary. As I look back, the years really flew by. I ask myself, what we did right and what we could have done better. I love her dearly and can’t wait to provide her with 50th wedding anniversary inscription.

When we were first married, it was just she and me. It took some time to change that and understand that it was now we, not you and me. A successful marriage is not only about giving material gifts. It is about respect and great inner love for the other. My successes are her successes. Her successes are mine as well. It has never been about her money and my money. It has always been about our money. Raising our children is a joint venture in which we take pride in their accomplishments. Our goal has always been to establish values for our children to follow. Role modeling and closeness is the best way to achieve that.

Celebrating Arbor Day

You're A Winner Motivational Stone

Engraved Inspirational Paperweight

Sterling Morton founded the first American Arbor Day for the purposes of setting aside a special day for tree planting. On April 10, 1872 , approximately one million trees were planted in Nebraska. In 1883, Arbor Day was promoted nationally and globally through the efforts of Birdsay Northrop of Connecticut. Some ideas to help promote Arbor Day in your school and community are:

  • Organize a ‘Tree Hunt’ around your school, like a treasure hunt. Students are directed from one tree to another with messages of encouragement.
  • Organize a tree identification hike.
  • Conduct an Arbor Day ceremony in your school or community garden to recognize the contributions of trees to our life and environment. Each class recites a poem about trees. Plant a tree in your school garden in recognition of the graduating class.
  • Conduct a school yard or park clean up.
  • Read a book about trees. The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein is a favorite of mine.

Good Luck Aries

Leave No Stone Unturned Business Gifts

Leave No Stone Unturned Business Gifts

Before you begin a new business venture or personal relationship, you might want to find out more about yourself.  If you were born between March 20 and April 19, your zodiac sign is Aries.

Since Aries is the first of the zodiac signs, they are independent, adventurous and courageous.  Their positive and magnetic personalities make them natural leaders.  Because Aries like to take a chance, they may plunge right into a business idea without assessing the risks.  Since they need immediate success they may not stick with it.  Therefore, personalized engraved corporate gifts for Aries might be inspirational paperweights which remind them to follow the course.

Aries make good friends because they are caring and generous. They will protect and nurture those they care about with their optimistic outlook. However, Aries can be quite childish and aggressive if they do not get their own way.  They are impulsive and frequently do not think before they speak.

Earth Day Activities for Kids

Happy Birthday Greeting Stone

Happy Birthday Engraved Stones

Earth Day was first celebrated on April 22, 1970 to make people aware of the need to keep our planet healthy and clean. On that day and every Earth Day since, people have participated in activities to clean up and make positive changes in their community. Some activities that your kids may enjoy are.

  • Create clever birthday greetings from recycled materials and unique river stones.
  • Contact your county for seedlings which your child’s class can plant in the school yard.
  • Start a vegetable garden. Kids love to eat vegetables from their own garden. This is a good way to promote healthy eating.
  • Get involved in a school or park clean. Check your local newspaper for ideas.
  • Walk short distances instead of driving. Save on gasoline, reduce pollution and get exercise.
  • Turn off the lights when you leave a room. This will reduce not only the electricity used but also the pollution released into the air.

Mother's Day Engraved Stones

Mother’s Day Engraved Stones

South Florida is very popular for snowbirds because of the moderate temperatures during the winter months.   With the exception of one winter, the last nine years have been delightful with temperatures frequently exceeding 80 degrees during the period from December through March.  Golf, tennis, bocce, etc. it all works.  I laugh when the weather forecasters refer to the cold front.  That is when the temperature drops below 65 during the middle of the night.

I can remember the many winters up north when ice and snow were major challenges.  We learned to tolerate it, but we are spoiled now.  There is so much to do down here.  Theater, water and other athletic activities are popular in addition to card games, and mahjong.  Also, craft projects like stone engraving and pottery making are big.  Some of us even book flights to the ski areas for a week of snow skiing.  Keep in mind that south Florida can be 10-15 degrees warmer than the Orlando area.
