MOM ROCKS Engraved Stones

Are you trying to find the perfect way to celebrate your mom’s birthday?  Most mothers are the constant givers.  Consider her birthday an an opportunity to give back.  Some suggestions for celebrating her special day are:

  • Gift cards for Mom that will save her time and bring her pleasure.  Some ideas that she will love are gift cards for her favorite restaurant, car wash, and beauty shop.
  • Pamper mom with a treat that she would not purchase for herself like a massage or facial.
  • Tickets to a museum, concert or show.  Community theater and local colleges have quality performances at affordable prices.
  • If mom is working on her birthday,  show up with flowers.  Present her with your hand-made gift certificate for tea and take her on the weekend.

Wrap up your gift in a pretty gift bag with curly ribbons, colorful tissue paper and a bow.  Include your own clever birthday greetings and Mom will just love it because it came from you.

Feel Good Inspirational Stones

It is virtually impossible to explain all of the thousands of pages in the Affordable Healthcare Act in a short blog.  However, I will try to cover some points that could be important to you.  The states will have an online marketplace where you can evaluate different plans and sign up for coverage.  This marketplace will begin on October 1, 2013.  There will be different options available from Kias to Cadillacs.

Go to to check them out.If you already receive healthcare insurance on your job, you are insured.  You do not need to shop for coverage.  However, if you wish, you can still check out the offers.  Some experts predict that premiums will rise.  Still others predict that premiums will be more affordable.  Only time will tell.  The important thing to understand is that if you are not covered and you opt out of the program, you will have to pay a penalty. Benefits under the new act include elimination of the pre-existing conditions clause, added benefits for dependents, electronic recordkeeping and expansion of preventative care services.   More to come.  Take good care of yourself and be solid as engraved rocks.

Thank You Engraved Stone

Thank You Engraved Stones

Even better than a sale is a repeat customer.  They not only provide you with sales, they acknowledge that they appreciate your products or services.  But best of all is a happy client or customer who trusts you because of the way you operate your business and is ready to recommend your business to others.  However, that may not be the philosophy behind social media likes.

Often, internet based companies offer tangible benefits to “like us”.  Do they really like us?  Who knows!  What is really important is that sales turn into customers or clients.  The way to do this is by earning their trust.  But how?  First, always beat expectations.  If you think your shipment will arrive by November 10, say November 11 or earlier.  When you receive an order for merchandise, try to ship it today.  If you receive a question over the phone or via the internet, acknowledge the question immediately and estimate when you will have an answer, even if you are not being paid for the answer.  Also, be sure to say thank you.  Engraved business gifts are an inexpensive and appropriate solution.

How To Get Lucky

Good Luck Engraved Stones

Good Luck Engraved Stones

What accounts for good luck or fortune?  People have been superstious for thousands of years and many good luck symbols and bad luck things have developed.  As an example, the number 13 is considered so unlucky that some airlines do not have a 13th row and some buildings do not have a 13th floor. Black cats are also a bad sign. But what do people use to bring good luck?

Should you spot a four leaf clover, pick it up.  It is supposed to bring good luck,  Some folks hang a horseshoe in their homes.  Others carry the tip of a rabbit’s foot in their pocket.  Still others carry a good luck stone in their other pocket.  Then there is the lucky penny or the wishbone.  The acorn is considered to be an emblem of good luck, prosperity, youthfulness and power.  Some even believe that three keys on a key ring bring good luck.  Which one will you rely on when you buy your next lottery ticket?  Will you buy it on the seventh or the eleventh?

Signs of the Zodiac Engraved Stones

Be Happy Greeting Stones

Be Happy Engraved Stones

Some of the most popular engraved stones are the Signs of the Zodiac.  The word Zodiac literally means animals and deals with the patterns of creatures as seen in the night stars. The Zodiac belt (the great circle around which the sun moves) changes throughout the months of the year. It is said to indicate the energy of the different constellational signs thereby transmitting the celestial radiations to our Earth.  Because the Zodiac potentially affects all of us, many follow the Zodiac signs with great interest.

The twelve signs of the Zodiac are Aires, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pieces. The Zodiac signs are found on engraved stones. Some choice examples of astrological gems are in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. There, you will find a green jasper bearing symbols of Luna, Capricorn, and Taurus. This gem is from the collection of the late Rev. C. W. King.  Do you study your signs and astrological advice?

How To Save Money On Car Insurance

According to Edmunds, you may be able to reduce your cost of insurance without giving up coverage. Due to the internet, car insurance companies are more competitive. It is easier to compare premiums. However, most people don’t shop around for insurance. Also, people tend to stay with the same car insurance company for years.  You can save on auto insurance in six ways:

  1. Make sure you get all discounts you qualify for.
  2. Keep your driver’s record clean and up-to-date.
  3. Adjust your coverage to assume more risk.
  4. Drive a “low profile” car equipped with certain money-saving safety features.
  5. Shop around for a good, low cost insurance provider.
  6. Take a safe driver course (such as AARP) to get a reduction on your premium.

Discounts you could qualify for fall into several categories:

  • Low-risk occupations
  • Professional organizations
  • Combined coverage
  • Discounts for safety features
  • More risk assumed by driver
  • Discounts for senior citizens

Also, if you have only one car, you do not need stacked insurance.  Call your insurer and see if they can make suggestions to keep you as a customer.  Tell them that you are shopping around.  Keep one of your favorite message stones, like your good luck stone, in your pocket when you call.

Every family has their own Hanukkah tradions.  Here are some that are common to most Jewish comunities.

Lighting the Hanukkah candles

Every year it is traditional to remember the miracle of the Hanukkah oil by lighting candles on a Hanukkah menorah or hanukkiyah. There are nine candles, eight candles in a row and one candle set a little above the othere. The hanukkiyah is lit every night for eight nights.

Spinning the dreidel

A dreidel is a 4-sided top with Hebrew letters written on each side. For more information, read our blog, Rules of the Dreidel Game.

Eating fried foods

Since Hanukkah celebrates the miracle of oil, it is traditional to eat fried foods such as potato latkes (pancakes) and jelly-donuts.  For a recipe for healthy potato latkes, see our blog Healthy Potato Latkes.

Giving Gifts

Many families give a small gift each night to every child in the family.  Unique Hanukkah greetings are Happy Hanukkah Engraved Stones.  Write the year and your own words on each gift stone.  Your child will cherish this keepsake for many years.

The World’s Oldest Engraved Object

A small pebble made from ochre may be the world’s oldest known engraved object.  This colorful pebble was found in the Klasies River Cave in the Eastern Cape Province in South Africa. It is associated with human remains and artifacts from the Middle Stone Age.  The Middle Stone Age, or the Mesolithic, is the period of geological time used to describe the period  from the end of the Ice Age to the beginning of sedentary farming.

The stone measures about 3-inches in length Researchers believe that there are at least 23 engraved lines on this colorful, 100,000 year-old pebble. It is believed that the pebble split off from one of the larger engraved stones in the area.

According to the archeologists, human remains found indicate that the ochre pebble was engraved by pre-historic man. The scientists believe that man intentionally engraved the colorful  lines with a sharp implement.  Ochre is a mineral-rich, red tinted clay which is believed to be one of the first pigments used by man for artistic purposes.  The lines may have been part of a symbolic engraving that was meaningful to prehistoric humans.

Simple Diet Tricks

Success Engraved Stones

Drink plenty of water or other low calorie beverages.

Rather than coffee and cake, try a low calorie beverage and a small piece of fruit.  You will feel satisfied and the beverage will fill your tummy for a while.  Also consider hot water or herbal tea with lemon and stevia if you prefer a hot beverage.

Eat early and often.

Rather than eating large meals, have the right snacks in the house and eat them between meals.  Suppose you have breakfast around 7 AM.  Have some baby carrots and celery in the fridge and snack on them about 10 AM.  In the afternoon, snack on some fresh fruit like apples.  Still hungry?  Have another apple.  Then plan on a healthy snack after dinner, but not just before bed time.  You will never be hungry while the pounds roll off.  Consider some fiber pills along with your meals.

Watch your salt like a hawk.

Salt will not add fat, but it will add water weight and increase blood pressure.  Read labels to avoid salty prepared foods. Eliminate salt for quick weight loss.

Carry engraved river stones in your pocket to motivate and remind you.
