What Is Your Favorite Month?

Monday, October 24, 2011 posted by Joan

I really enjoy October.  The weather is turning cool and crisp as the leaves are changing colors.     It’s harvest time and a delicious time for pumpkins, apples, and pears.  October is a  great time for cooking.  Just  think about simmering stew, hearty soup, pumpkin pie and cranberry bread.  For football enthusiasts, it’s the midpoint of the NFL season, while shoppers are busy taking advantage of those Columbus Day sales.

We’re anxiously waiting and preparing for Halloween and and thinking about Thanksgiving.  Christmas and Hanukkah are not far away.  Many of us are happily planning to visit with family and friends for the holidays.    Did you know October 5 is America’s  most popular birthday?  Why do you think that is?  Could it have anything to do with New Year’s Eve?  If your friend or family member is celebrating a birthday, think about a meaningful yet inexpensive gift.  Maybe a coffee mug, poster or engraved pocket stones that can be personalized.

I hope you’re enjoying October, too.  What is your favorite month?

Hints For Choosing the Best Anniversary Gift

A Greeting Stone

Finding an anniversary gift for your special friend’s anniversary may be a challenge.  The wedding anniversary gift should be something thoughtful and special.  Think about what the couple likes and what they enjoy doing together when you are considering gifts.  Some  ideas that couples have liked are:

  • Give the couple an activity that they can do together, for example, tickets for a show or movie. You can join in with others and give them a weekend get-away. Another idea is a gift certificate for dinner at a favorite restaurant.
  • Have a special photo of the couple, like their wedding photo, framed with their names and date engraved.
  • If the anniversary couple loves wine or champagne, select a personalized pair of wine glasses or champagne flutes.
  • A gift card for a night out is always a favorite for couples.

I hope these suggestions will help you select that perfect anniversary gift.  With your gift, give your friends an engraved rock with the words HAPPY ANNIVERSARY.  Personalize the back of the stone with the year and a short message.  This will be a great keepsake to remind them of their special day.

All About Halloween

Greeting Stone

Did you know that Halloween is one of the world’s oldest holidays? It started as a Celtic festival, called Samhein, marking the end of the harvest. When the Romans conquered the Celtics, they changed the holiday to honor their gods. Eventually, the Roman Catholic Church adapted the day as All Saints’ Day or All Hallows’ Day to honor the saints who did not have a specific feast day of their own.   In the United States, children began going trick-or-treat in their neighborhoods in the 1920s.  By this time, Halloween lost its religious meaning and became a fun holiday when people could wear costumes, decorate their homes, eat special foods and celebrate together.

Both children and adults love to dress in costumes.  Ghosts, princesses, witches, devils, and superheroes have always been popular costumes. This year, you can expect to also see smurfs, Lady Gaga, Captain America, zombies and Harry Potter.   Halloween is not only for children.  Adults can join in the fun, too.  If you’re planning a Halloween Party, think about a gift for the best costume. Perhaps a motivational stones engraved with WAY TO GO or YOU’RE A WINNER or a Halloween mug or maybe a treat.  However you decide to celebrate, take the time to enjoy Halloween.

Did You Know About Sweetest Day?

Sweetest Day is  celebrated primarily in the Great Lakes Region and parts of the Northeast United States, on the third Saturday in October. It is described by Retail Confectioners International as an “occasion which offers all of us an opportunity to remember husbands, boyfriends, the sick, aged and orphaned, but also friends, relatives and associates whose helpfulness and kindness we have enjoyed.” Sweetest Day has also been referred to as a “concocted holiday” created by the candy industry solely to increase sales of sweets.

At at time when many of us are trying to reduce the amount of sugar that we consume, you may choose to remember your loved one with a personalized note, greeting card or  love stone.  A stone engraving with the message I  ♥   GRANDPA or I  LOVE YOU or LOVE FOREVER will certainly make your loved one smile.

Say It With a Greeting Stone

Why do I have a variety of friends who are all so different in character?  How can I get along with them all?  I think that each one helps to bring out a different  part of me.  With one of them, I am polite.  I joke with another friend.  I sit down and talk about serious matters with one.  With another, I laugh a lot.  I may have a drink with one.  I listen to one friend’s problems.  Then, I listen to another ones’s advice for me.

My friends are all like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle.  When completed, they form a treasure box.  A treasure of friends!  They are my friends who understand me better than myself, who support me through good days and bad days. We all pray together and for each other.

Real Age doctors tell us that friends are good for our health.  Dr. Oz calls them Vitamins F (for Friends) and counts the benefits of friends as essential to our well being.  Research shows that people in strong social circles have less risk of depression and terminal strokes.  If you enjoy Vitamins F constantly,  you can be up to 30 years younger than your real age.  The warmth of friendship stops stress and even in your most intense moments, it decreases the chance of a cardiac arrest or stroke by 50%.

I’m so happy that I have a stock of Vitamins F!  We should value our friends and keep in touch with them. We should try to see the funny side of things and laugh together, and pray for each other in the tough moments.

Thank you for being one of my Vitamins!

Show your friends that you value their friendship.  You may choose to say it with notes, a personalized friendship gifts or a greeting cards.  You may have a better idea.  I’d love to hear about  it.

A Greeting Stone For Your Boss

Finding an appropriate gift for Boss’s Day, Monday, October 17, can be a challenge.  Unlike some holidays which many people believe originate in the marketing departments of large greeting card companies, Boss’s Day was the brainchild of  a secretary for an insurance company.

Many employees  have trouble remembering that October 17th is Boss’s Day.   But chances are, your boss won’t forget whether or not he/she is worthy of a gift.  What type of gift should you choose?  Do you give your boss a greeting card that will end up in the trash, edibles which will be  gone quickly, or another coffee mug which will sis in the cabinet with the others?   An engraved river stone that can be used as a paperweight may be your solution.   How about a stone with YOU’RE A WINNER engraved on the top?  Maybe a stone which is engraved THANK YOU on the top with your personal message written on the bottom side?  Which ever Greeting Stone you choose, your boss will remember you for years, and it will cost you less than $10.

What Is The Question?

Saturday, October 8, 2011 posted by Martin

When it comes to businesses and organizations, to thank you and how to thank you, that is the question.   We appreciate many things, such as a job well done, being under budget or time deadlines mean everything.  To place a large order and to be a loyal customer means everything.   Christmas cards are soon forgotten and lunches or dinners are soon consumed.

A Greeting Stone

But what if the folks you are trying to thank see your appreciation every day?   So we use calendars which last a year, pens which get lost or etibles which are gone quickly.  The answer could be a paperweight.  The recipient sees it every day,  and it is a reminder that all of these things are valued.  What kind of paperweight will be welcomed?  How about a stone with a THANK YOU on the top and your name on the reverse?  How about LEAVE NO STONE UNTURNED on the top and NICE JOB! on the reverse?  Whatever, you get to make the call. And the recipient will remember your gesture for years. Which personalized engraved corporate gift would you pick?
